What is a Midwife?
Midwives are licensed, independent health care providers specializing in reproductive health, including pregnancy, birth, family planning, as well as primary and newborn care.
Midwives consult, collaborate with, and refer to a variety of other healthcare practitioners based on the needs of their patients.
Part of what makes midwives unique is our philosophy of care. Midwifery affirms that everyone has a right to equitable, ethical, accessible healthcare that promotes healing and health, and respects human dignity. Midwives foster individuality and honor diversity and self-determination, expecting people’s active participation in their health care decisions.
